mOLD

WHAT IS MOLD and WHY DOES IT GROW?
Mold is a species of fungus which reproduces itself by means of microscopic spores.
It serves the purpose in nature of causing the decomposition of dead plant matter.  It does this by consuming and digesting organic matter,  in particular cellulose.  This activity of mold is what prevents an enormous accumulation of dead plants, trees and leaves on our planet.

SO WHY DOES MOLD OCCUR IN MY HOME?

Cellulose is also found in a wide variety of the building materials used in your home, such as cardboard in your drywall, and wood used to frame the walls and provide finish molding.
Cellulose is also found in many fabrics containing organic material such cotton and carpets, wool and silk.

Mold will feed on the cellulose found in all of these and any other form of organic matter that is available in your home.

When high levels of moisture and humidity are present, thousands of mold spores will begin to reproduce and grow in the form of mold and mildew.

MOLD, MILDEW AND ILLNESS.

Enclosed areas where moisture is present, such as basements, crawl spaces, wall spaces, and attics, offer perfect conditions for mold, mildew and  mold spores that lead to  allergies, asthma and other illnesses.

Whether you see mold or not, wherever moisture is present, mold and mildew are not far behind, and may already exist in areas of your home where it is not yet visible.

MOLD WILL "EAT" THROUGH YOUR HOME.

Not only does mold present a health hazard, it can do costly damage to your home.  M
old lives by eating organic material wherever it can be found.  That means that when mold takes up residence your home, it is "feasting" on the organic material it finds in the drywalls, in the structure and support beams and so forth.  Left unchecked, the mold could gradually weaken the structure of your home.

HOW CAN I PREVENT MOLD IN MY HOME?

Mold spores are found everywhere on this planet, so it is essentially impossible to eliminate mold spores completely from our homes.
What can be done, though, to effectively prevent mold spores from multiplying and then springing to life in the form of mold and mildew, is to eliminate moisture.
